Our first stop is โThe Baleed Museum of the Frankincense Landโ, inaugurated in July 2007 at Al Balid Archaeological Park, a UNESCO heritage site. The Frankincense Land Museum is the latest addition to Omanโs heritage and cultural scene. The museum reveals the geography, history of the ancient Frankincense trail and the historical background of the Sultanate through archaeological findings, and features the development of Omanโs rich marine history. Continue on to visit the ancient city of Zufar. Experience a complete saga of the Maritime trade & ship building industry of Oman, with methodically carved replicas of the ancient boats & ships. Drive through lush green plantations followed by a brief stop to have some fresh coconut water at stalls within the border of the old town of Haffah. Next stop is at the impressive Sultan Qaboos Mosque, the Official Palace of His Majesty the Sultan; Aqeel Mosque, Al Husn Palace & stroll through the old Haffa souk, famous for the sale of high quality Frankincense & numerous other Dhofari traditional souvenirs. The souk is very attractive with its small shops lined up with straight piles of incense, clay incense burners colorfully decorated with traditional patterns, bags of incense crystals and the rich smell of frankincense. Take this free time to indulge in some shopping followed by return to the hotel. Overnight in Salalah.
Rise and shine! Dig into your breakfast buffet before your optional excursion to the East & West of Salalah. Drive to the old fishing village of Taqah and old Dhofari Houses. Visit the old Taqah Castle dating back 100 years. Continue to the ancient ruins of the once famous city of Sumharam also known as Khor Rohri. Khor Rori was an important port on the coast of Dhofar, and one of the major trading cities for frankincense. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage site. A picturesque drive then leads you to Mirbat, the ancient capital of Dhofar and the beginning of the Frankincense trail. Stroll through the streets lined with old Omani mud houses and on your way to western Salalah, explore the natural spring of Ayn Razat, beautifully set amongst the serene plush mountains, nourished all year round by natural underground spring water. Proceed to Qara Mountains and explore the west. Herds of camels and cattle are a common sight on this road progressively curving up a steep incline, offering a scenic view of traditional Dhofari rural splendor. Then visit the ancient tomb of Prophet Job located in the scenic green mountains of the Salalah Plains. Next head to the beach of Mughsail where the white sand grazes the deep blue of the ocean. Continue along the Hair-pin bend road towards Western Border of Oman. In store for you are spectacular cliffs on either side to see the iconic Frankincense trees growing in their natural habitat. Here, take a short walk into the valleys to smell the Holy incense amongst the charming regional vistas. Overnight in Salalah.
